A copy of the County Medical Examiner statute was distributed to the Committee for review and consideration. It was also noted that the statute permits the Board to designate the health officer as medical examiner.
The Committee discussed the history of this position. A letter naming Dr. Satish Chawla as deputy medical examiner, dated October 4, 2001, was reviewed. Commissioner Dale suggested sending a good faith letter to the hospital seeking input on this subject. It was agreed that the Controller should review the medical examiner situation and report back to the Committee.
Health Officer / Medical Director Contract
The Committee discussed the need for a formal agreement with the Health Officer / Medical Director. Past arrangements were discussed, but no written contract exists for this position.
