Chippewa East Mackinac Conservation District

Board Meeting Minutes

July 13, 2005 (Pickford, Michigan)

Attendance: Richard Serfass, Forbes McDonald, Tina Love, Dustine King, Pat Carr, and Scott Hughey. Jim Pawlowicz, our MDA field rep was also in attendance. A quorum was declared. The agenda was approved.

Minutes of the June meeting were approved on a motion from Love and second by Priehs. Carried. The treasurer’s report and payment of bills were approved on a motion by Serfass and second by Priehs. Carried.

Orville Kabat was appointed to the board of directors on a motion by Love and a second by Priehs. King to verify that McDonald is listed as the chairman.

The NRCS grant that King has been working under for the past two years is now complete. Approved by Serfass and seconded by Priehs that McDonald sign the final request for funds. A new agreement is available for the district staff to do specific tasks for NRCS. This would involve King doing status reviews. It is moved by Priehs and seconded by Love that the District enter into this agreement. King and Hughey to handle the paperwork. Carried.

Carr presented Sault Watershed Report. (see attached).

King mailed a copy of the Profit and Loss /Budget for the current year and a proposed budget for next year to the members. Next month we will set a meeting for public comment.

Natural Resources Conservation Service report was given by Hughey. (see attached) On September 20 there will be a meeting of the Michigan Sheep Breeders Association at Benne’s in Rudyard.

Water Guardians report was given by King. Water sampling has begun.

The letter to the NRCS GRP program coordinator was submitted for signing. King to make several changes. Letter is to be sent to M. Lapointe for perusal before mailing.

Tree Farm Award nominations are to be submitted by August 1. Serfass to contact J. McEntee and Fred Massena.

Purchase of Development Rights information was passed to R. Serfass.

King requests that the mileage reimbursement be raised from .31 to .36. Approved by Serfass and seconded by Love. Carried.

Next meeting will again be held in the evening.
