MEETING MINUTES

July 9th, 2010

A meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners Personnel Committee was held on July, 9th, 2010 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Chairman Moore called the closed session to order at 9:30 p.m. with a quorum present.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Moore, Ted Postula and Jesse Knoll

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

OTHERS PRESENT: Jim German, County Administrator Steve Cannello, , Mike Bitnar , Lana Forest, Dave Martin, Heidi Bailey, Robert Savoie and Don McLean

CCHD Union Negotiations

Steve Cannello provided an update on the union negotiations at the Health Department.

It was moved by Commissioner Knoll, supported by Commissioner Postula, to support managements position in the negotiations. On a voice vote the motion CARRIED.

Salary Study

Information was provided that was requested at the workshop in regard to the salary study. No action was taken.

Undersheriff Promotion and Pay Scale

The promotion of Undersheriff Mike Bitnar was announced. His years of service were discussed as well as the fact that he would lose his B-4 retirement and revert back to B-3. Also the fact was discussed that he would be working more overtime for less pay than his last position as Detective.

It was moved by Commissioner Postula, supported by Commissioner Knoll, to approve moving the Undersheriff to the three year level in the position to offset lost wages and benefits. On a voice vote the motion CARRIED.

Sheriff Department Promotions

Promotions in the Sheriff Department were discussed. These included Deputy Gregg Postma to Detective, Deputy Doug Mitchell to road patrol duties and David Hall who is part time to fill the full time Corrections position.

It was moved by Commissioner Knoll, supported by Commissioner Postula, to accept the promotions listed above. On a voice vote the motion Carried.

Life Saving Award

Life saving efforts were discussed in a recent situation that happened at the Jail. Corporal Paul Stanaway, and Corrections officers David Hall and Jordon Perry were commended for their heroic efforts in the situation.

It was moved by Commissioner Knoll, supported by Commissioner Postula, for the County to send a letter of recognition to the individuals for their heroic efforts. On a voice vote the motion Carried.

Grant Writer

The possibilities were discussed of the County hiring someone who could write grants or do grant follow up work and assist with some accounting functions.

It was moved by Commissioner Knoll, supported by Commissioner Postula, to have such a position put into next years budget request and begin working on a job description. On a voice vote the motion CARRIED.
