AD-HOC ANIMAL CONTROL COMMITTEE
				       MEETING MINUTES

				     SEPTEMBER 21, 2001


A  meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners' Ad-Hoc Animal Control Committee was held 
on Friday, September 21, 2001 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  The 
meeting was called to order by Chairperson Dale at 11:00 a.m. with a quorum present.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Rita Dale, Chairperson, Aaron Hopper, Debbie Green, Tim Dolehanty

MEMBERS ABSENT: Dave Carpenter, Wendy Beaudoin-Zimmerman

OTHERS PRESENT:	None

Agenda Items
Chairperson Dale reviewed the purpose of the Committee and offered background on the animal control 
issue.  Discussion then ensued regarding the current management structure and policies affecting the animal 
shelter and animal control services.  Employee schedules and duties were also discussed, with committee 
members noting the need to formalize the operation to avoid misunderstandings over work responsibilities.

Much discussion was heard regarding the hours of operation at the shelter.  It was the intent of the Board of 
Commissioners to have the shelter open on Saturdays.

The Committee agreed that it may be best for the County to assume operation of the facility.  County 
Controller Tim Dolehanty agreed to develop draft policies, position descriptions, work schedules and a 
budget for consideration by the Committee.  After reviewing the information, the Committee would begin 
to develop a recommendation for the Board of Commissioners.

Hearing no other comments, Chairperson Dale declared the meeting adjourned at 12:05 p.m.
