EQUALIZATION AND APPORTIONMENT COMMITTEE
                                                                                 MEETING MINUTES
 
                                                                                 OCTOBER 4, 2001
 
 
A regular meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners' Equalization and Apportionment
Committee was held on Thursday, October 4, 2001 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste.
Marie, Michigan.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman LaJoie at 4:05 p.m. with a quorum
present.
 
MEMBERS PRESENT: Bernard LaJoie, Chairman, Rita Dale
 
MEMBERS ABSENT:          Don Cooper
 
OTHERS PRESENT:            Tim Dolehanty, County Controller, Sharon Kennedy, Register of Deeds /
                               Equalization Director
 
 
Additions / Deletions to the Agenda
Chairman LaJoie called for additions or deletions to the agenda.  None were offered.
 
Approval of the Agenda
It was moved by Commissioner Dale, supported by Chairman LaJoie, to approve the agenda as
presented.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.
 
Public Comments
There were no public comments.
 
Correspondence and Information Items
No correspondence or information items were presented.
 
Agenda Items: Millage / Apportionment Report
 
Register of Deeds / Equalization Director Sharon Kennedy presented a draft millage report listing taxable
values and millage rates.  She stated that the purpose of the report was to present the property tax
information in a manner that was understandable and useful to all citizens.  In that spirit, although not
required, village millage rates, special assessments and other millage rates were also included in the
report.  Kennedy went on to discuss related information about township and school activities.
 
It was moved by Commissioner Dale, supported by Chairman LaJoie, to refer the millage report to
the Finance, Claims and Accounts Committee for a recommendation to the Board.  On a voice
vote, the motion was CARRIED.
 
Tax Rolls
Kennedy reported that all tax roll data has been entered into the County's computer system.  She advised
that the County was working with Manatron to place a "United We Stand" watermark on the tax bills. 
Manatron will also offer an area on the tax bills for special messages from township officials.
 
Studies
Kennedy concluded her presentation to the Committee with a status report on the equalization studies
required by the State.  She stated the studies are underway, and that tentative residential studies were
provided to the townships for their review several months earlier.  Kennedy also shared the results of
some of the commercial property data collected.

Chairman LaJoie had no addition comments.
 
Adjourn
It was moved by Commissioner Dale, supported by Chairman LaJoie, to refer the millage report to
the Finance, Claims and Accounts Committee for a recommendation to the Board.  On a voice
vote, the motion was CARRIED.  The meeting was subsequently adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
