BUILDING, GROUNDS AND JAIL COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
October 16, 2002
A special meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners' Building, Grounds and Jail
Committee was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at the office of Northwoods Land
Surveying, 816 Ashmun Street in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Chairman Kay called the meeting
to order at 8:35 a.m. with a quorum present.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Earl Kay, Chairman, and Rita Dale
MEMBERS ABSENT: Don Cooper
OTHERS PRESENT: Tim Dolehanty, County Controller, Troy Stachler, Animal
Control Officer, Bev McCready, Randy McGahey and Deb Green
Additions / Deletions to the Agenda
Chairman Kay called for additions or deletions to the agenda. Hearing none, the agenda was
declared approved.
Public Comment
There were no public comments.
Agenda Item: Animal Shelter Facility
Chairman Kay led a discussion about the current construction plan and proposed changes. The
itemized cost estimate prepared by Randy McGahey was reviewed. A number of changes were
made to the itemized list in order to reduce the cost of the facility.
Randy McGahey said it was important to schedule the gas hook-up before winter rates take effect.
Coordination of construction tasks with the Road Commission was discussed. Chairman Kay
reported that road construction and topsoil stripping were finished on October 15.
It was agreed that Mr. McGahey should continue to review projected costs with his
subcontractors in order to bring expenses down as much as possible. Mr. McGahey agreed to
meet with the subcontractors and to report the results of his meetings to the Committee Chairman
and Controller.
