PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

 

August 30, 2004

 

A regular meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Personnel Committee was held on Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  Chairperson Dale called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. with a quorum present.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:              Rita Dale, Chairperson, Earl Kay, and Ted Postula

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:                None

 

OTHERS PRESENT:                 Tim Dolehanty, County Controller, Ron Cross, Susan Short, Tina Ojala, Gail Shunk, Marilyn McDonald

 

Additions / Deletions to the Agenda

Chairperson Dale called for additions or deletions to the agenda.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to approve the agenda as presented.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Public Comments

Chairperson Dale called for pubic comments.  No public comments were offered.

 

Correspondence and Information Items

Commissioner Kay read the letter of resignation submitted by County Controller Tim Dolehanty.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to recommend that the letter of resignation be accepted.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Agenda Items: AFSCME Local 1552 General County Employee Unit Grievance RE:  Furlough Days

AFSCME Local 1552 President Barb Fortin said the Union would be satisfied if the Committee would agree to apply furlough days to all unit employees, including the grant-position employees assigned to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office.  Treasurer Marilyn McDonald told the Committee that the Prosecuting Attorney is technically the support coordinator, and the work for that grant could be spread among other office employees contract has to have a percentage of hours for other employees.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to declare that all employees of the AFSCME Local 1552 General County Employee Unit are subject to five furlough days to be taken before December 31, 2004.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Other

Committee members and AFSCME Union representatives discussed various tasks that will be subject to negotiations late in the year.

Chairperson Dale had no additional comments.

 

Adjourn

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to adjourn the meeting.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.
