MEETING MINUTES

 

November 29, 2005

 

 

A meeting of the City/County Liaison Committee was held on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in the Mayor’s Conference Room of the City/County Building in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m. with a quorum present.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:                          Don Cooper, Bernie LaJoie, James Moore

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:                            None

 

OTHERS PRESENT:                             Spencer Nebel, City Manager; Clayton McGahey, City Commissioner; Lou Murray, City Police Chief and Kelly Beaune, Recorder

 

 

 

A meeting was held to discuss a vicious dog ordinance, particularly the pitbull breed.  Several complaints have been made in the City regarding aggressive pitbulls.  The Committee discussed the previously drafted City ordinance and why it did not pass the first time, and to see if those obstacles have been cleared up.  The problems stated during the hearings held included breed determination, testimony of dog owners/veterinarians.  Documentation was reviewed regarding laws and banning of pitbulls.

 

The Committee asked for follow up information regarding dog bites and licensing numbers.  For a follow-up meeting to be scheduled in the future.
