CITY / COUNTY LIAISON COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

March 2, 2006

A meeting of the City/County Liaison Committee was held on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in the Mayor’s Conference Room of the City/County Building in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m. with a quorum present.

MEMBERS PRESENT:                          Bernie LaJoie, Scott Shackleton, Earl Kay

MEMBERS ABSENT:                            None

OTHERS PRESENT:                             Spencer Nebel, City Manager; Lou Murray, City Police Chief and Kelly Beaune, Recorder

A meeting was held to discuss the options for a specific breed ban or vicious dog ordinance, with the Committee.  Spencer Nebel, wanted to know if the County is interested in either the ban or ordinance.  It was questioned if the ordinance would be able to get past the hearings, which it was not able to in 1995.  Scott Shackleton prefers to wait and see how it goes for the city, and not go County wide yet.  Earl Kay supports this statement, as the characteristics between the city and county population and area are so diverse.  The meeting concluded with Spencer Nebel going to inform the City Commission informally of the discussions held with the County, and that the County would support whatever the City decides, but at this time, the County does not know how a ban and/or ordinance would be enforced.  Bernie LaJoie agreed with supporting the City with the process they decide on.

The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
