A meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Health and Social Services Committee was held on Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Chairman Postula called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. with a quorum present.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Moore, Bernie LaJoie and Ted Postula, Chair

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

OTHERS PRESENT: Kelly Beaune, Recorder

Additions / Deletions to the Agenda

Chairman Postula called for additions or deletions to the agenda. Hearing none, the agenda was declared approved as presented.

Public Comments

Chairman Postula called for pubic comments. No public comments were offered.

Agenda Item: Health Insurance/Commissioners

The Committee discussed Policy 92-321 which defines a full-time employee with Chippewa County, full-time vs. part-time status of the commissioners and what other non-union employees’ benefits are with relation to the Union contracts. Discussion also included, that contracts provide a $1500.00 payment in lieu of taking health care coverage.

It was moved by Commissioner Moore, supported by Commissioner LaJoie, to have the Legislative and Natural Resources Committee look into establishing and defining a Commissioner’s Compensation and Benefits Policy. On a voice vote, the motion CARRIED.
