MEETING MINUTES

November  30, 2006

 

A regular meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Personnel Committee was held on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  Chairperson Bernie LaJoie called the meeting to order at 8:30 p.m. with a quorum present.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:        Bernie LaJoie, Chairman, Earl Kay and Ted Postula

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:         None

 

OTHERS PRESENT:            Holly Henderson and Kelly Beaune, Recorder

 

Additions/Deletions to the Agenda

Chairman LaJoie called for additions or deletions to the agenda.  It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula to approve the agenda as presented.   On a voice vote, the motion carried.

 

Public Comments

Chairman LaJoie called for public comments.  No public comments were offered.

Agenda Items: Central Dispatch

The Committee received position recommendations from Central Dispatch Director Tim McKee.    Four applicants were tested and interviewed for the position of Senior Dispatcher.   This will fill the vacancy of Senior Dispatcher Marianne Willett.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to accept the recommendation of Director McKee, to hire Betty Mayer to fill the Senior Dispatch position full time effective December 11,  2006.  On a voice vote, the motion PASSED.

 

The appointment of Betty Mayer to Senior Dispatcher leaves a Dispatcher vacancy which Director McKee recommended Brenda Curtis to fill this position, as Ms. Curtis has been a part-time dispatcher for the past two years.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to accept the recommendation of Director McKee, to hire Brenda Curtis to fill the Dispatch position full time effective December 11,  2006.  On a voice vote, the motion PASSED.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to accept the resignations from part-time Dispatcher Robert Shields effective December 12, 2006 and Samantha Huyck from full-time to part-time status effective December 6, 2006.  On a voice vote, the motion PASSED.

 

Central Dispatch is currently interviewing and testing individuals for vacant part-time positions, the vacancy was posted with the Michigan Job Bank at Michigan Works, as well as, advertised in the Sault Evening News.

 

Other – Animal Control

Animal Control Shelter Attendant Holly Henderson addressed the Committee regarding a change in title only.  Holly has been the full-time with the County since 2004, and has the only full time position at the Chippewa County Animal Control Shelter.  Ms. Henderson currently oversees the part time staff, as well as, the volunteers, including the Community Services Workers.  Ms. Henderson is requested the job title change so that she may directly oversee and be given the ability to evaluate job performances of the part time staff at the Shelter.  The Committee requested that the job description of Shelter Attendant be reviewed and updated to Shelter Manager, before any decision is recommended.

Commissioner Postula, seconded by Commissioner Kay, moved it to adjourn the meeting.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.
