PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

 

October 30, 2007

 

A regular meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Personnel Committee was held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  Chairman LaJoie called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. with a quorum present.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:                     Earl Kay and Bernie LaJoie

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:                       Ted Postula

 

OTHERS PRESENT:                         Ron Menard, Kathy Munson, Jeannie Goeschel, Carmen Fazzari, AFSCME Representative Sue Cameron and Kelly Beaune, Recorder.

 

Additions / Deletions to the Agenda

Chairman LaJoie called for additions or deletions to the agenda. 

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner LaJoie, to approve the agenda as presented.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Public Comments:

No comments were offered.

 

Agenda Items – Grievance Procedure

The Committee met to follow Step 3 of the AFSCME Grievance Procedure following a suspension and discharge from the General County Employee Unit.  Step 3 initiates a meeting with the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners Personnel Committee and any other Employer representatives for the purpose of attempting to resolve the dispute.  Union Representative Sue Cameron indicated the Union wishes to reinstate the long-term discharged employee, possibly with restrictions, including daily testing or a last chance 6-month agreement.  The discharged employee indicated presence at counseling meetings since the second suspension and subsequent discharge, with documentation to be provided.  Per the recommendations of the Personnel Committee and review by legal counsel, a termination letter was sent.

 

Committee and Chairman’s Comments

The Committee offered no additional comments.

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner LaJoie, to adjourn the meeting.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Chairperson LaJoie declared the meeting adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
