MEETING MINUTES

December 12, 2007

A regular meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Personnel Committee was held on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Chairman LaJoie called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. with a quorum present.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Earl Kay, Ted Postula and Bernie LaJoie

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

OTHERS PRESENT: Kelly Beaune, Recorder.

Additions / Deletions to the Agenda

Chairman LaJoie called for additions or deletions to the agenda.

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to approve the agenda as presented. On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

Correspondence and Information Items

Agenda Items – Maintenance Attendant

The Committee reviewed the hiring for the Maintenance position, which was filled on December 3, 2007 by Robert LeFevre. Discussion included the shifts currently being worked, along with the possibility of changes to those shifts, as well as, the Head Maintenance position that has been left open in the recent past.

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to hired Robert LeFevre III to fill the Maintenance Attendant position, effective December 3, 2007. On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

Closed Session

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to enter into a closed session to discuss Union negotiations, pursuant to Section 8(c) of the Open Meetings Act, Act 267, P.A. 1976, as amended, being MCL 15.268(c). A roll call vote was taken as follows: Kay - Yes; Postula – Yes; LaJoie - Yes. Motion CARRIED.

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to resume the open session meeting of the Personnel Committee. A roll call vote was taken as follows: Kay - Yes; Postula – Yes; LaJoie - Yes. Motion CARRIED

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to approve a 3% non-union wage increase, effective January 1, 2008. On a voice vote the motion was CARRIED.

Other – Animal Control

Commissioner Kay brought up the Chippewa County Animal Control Shelter’s current staffing, dog/cat numbers and the cleanliness of the Shelter.

Committee and Chairman’s Comments

The Committee offered no additional comments.

Adjourn

It was moved by Commissioner LaJoie, seconded by Commissioner Moore, to adjourn the meeting. On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

Chairperson LaJoie declared the meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
