Agenda Item: Jail Expansion

The committee met to discuss the next step of the potential jail expansion of 56 beds; the Committee reviewed a proposed preconstruction schedule if a contract could be put in place by early October; the construction portion of the project would then begin at the end of May 2008 with completion scheduled for mid-February 2009.  The Committee discussed several options the County could take with the project including the pros and cons of the design/build which was used for the original expansion.  The Sheriff offered continued concerns of the County Jail needs presently and its future requirements.  Discussion also included the financials of the project, including the number of beds that would need to be filled by federal inmates to make the expansion pay for the increased expenses of the potential expansion, not the actual bricks and mortar, but the expense of the utilities, staff and the prison board.   Discussion concluded with what step to be taken next with this project.
