 BOARD MEETING

Call to Order

Floyd Rabineau called the meeting to order at 9:08 a.m.

 

Roll Call

Present:  Floyd Rabineau, Tom Sherman, Jack Kibble, Kathleen Langhals and Mindy Irvine.

 

 

Approval of Agenda

Tom Sherman moved, supported by Jack Kibble, to approve the agenda as written.  Motion carried.

 

Previous Minutes

Tom Sherman moved, supported by Jack Kibble, to approve the minutes of the March 2008 Chippewa Co. DHS board meeting as written.  Motion carried.

 

Contracts

Kathy Langhals notified the board of the following contract amendments.

 

RFCAN, RFCJJ, SOFC          Various Contractors                 Contract Extensions

Adoption 08                             Various Contractors                 License Relatives for Foster Care

 

Statistics

The March 2008 statistics were not available to review, however intake activity is still high.

 

County Budget Review

The budget ending March 2008 was reviewed. 

 

County Hospitalization

No requests at this time.

 

Review of Directors’ Calendar

Kathy’s calendar was reviewed and it was agreed that the next meeting would be 5/9/08 at 9:00 a.m. and the June meeting will be 6/20/08 at 9:00 a.m.

 

County Director’s Update

·        Kathy informed the board that a Mackinac Co. Board member is in LTC at Mackinac Straights Hospital with a tumor and is terminal.

·        Kathy informed the board that a Luce Co. Board member has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy treatments and is not very mobile but attended the meeting via a phone call.

 

 

·        Kathy informed the board that there was a statewide directors meeting for the first time in over a year.  Information from the meeting was shared included:

 

1.      The work participation rate focus is at 50%.

2.      Day Care program audits show less than 20% were accurate.  The program is very susceptible to fraud and a work group is working to resolve the problems.

3.      The Food Assistance Program (FAP) error rate in Michigan is in the top five in the country.  However, our local error rate is good.

4.      The Children’s Rights lawsuit is still be negotiated.  It is possible that Director Ahmed will do restructuring of some levels within the department.

 

Board Comments

Tom Sherman inquired on the twice per month issuance of FAP benefits.  Jack Kibble informed the board that he is running in the primary elections for the Sault Tribe Board.
