Road Commission

A discussion was held on the possibility of enlarging the Road commission to five members as allowed under State Law.  An approximate cost of adding board members was discussed as well as the efficiency that it would serve.  The Committee did not rule out the possibility but decided to take no action at this time.

The Committee also discussed how to better have local vendors understand the bidding and purchasing policies of the Commission.  Chair of the Road Commission Lou McDonald said the Commission was working on this.

Also discussed was manager Dirk Heckman’s resignation and how the Road Commission planned on handling the replacement process.

Other

Commissioner Timmer spoke of the need for E-85 gas pumps in the area.  Commissioner Timmer explained there were state grants available to help obtain these pumps through the Upper Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development Council. Commissioner Timmer felt it would be of benefit

for the Commission to pursue this through a resolution.

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Timmer  to ask the Eastern U.P. RC&D to apply to the Upper Peninsula RC&D for state grants for E-85 pumps and to have the County Administrator draw up a resolution to this effect. On a voice vote, the motion CARRIED.

Chairman Timmer declared the meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
