PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

 

February 20, 2008

 

A regular meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners’ Personnel Committee was held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Chippewa County Courthouse in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  Chairman LaJoie called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. with a quorum present.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:                     Earl Kay, Ted Postula and Bernie LaJoie

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:                       None

 

OTHERS PRESENT:                         Judge MacDonald and Kelly Beaune, Recorder.

 

Additions / Deletions to the Agenda

Chairman LaJoie called for additions or deletions to the agenda. 

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to approve the agenda as presented.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

Correspondence and Information Items

No additional information

 

Agenda Items – District Court Staffing

The Committee was advised by Judge MacDonald of an upcoming retirement, as well as, the Judge’s request to hire replacement personnel three (3) month prior to the retirement date, so that cross training can be completed.  The position will be advertised, once the current staff is bids on the position opening.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to support Judge MacDonald’s request to hire replacement staff three (3) months prior to the retirement, so that cross training can be accomplished and to forward this motion to the Finance Committee.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Sheriff’s Department – New Hire

The Committee reviewed a request from Sheriff Moran, to fill the vacant position of Brian Mulder with new hire David Spencer effective February 19, 2008.  Mr. Spencer has been with the Sheriff’s Department since July 2006.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, supported by Commissioner Postula, to support Sheriff Moran’s request to hire replacement Correction’s Officer David Spencer full-time effective February 19, 2008.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Other

The Committee received a copy of Circuit Court’s criminal caseload for 2007, and also, a response letter from the Public Defender’s Office regarding time being spent at Tribal Court during regular office hours.  A copy of the letter will be provided to the Board of Commissioners.  Future meetings for AFSCME negotiations will be held on March 5th and 12th at 5:30 p.m.

The Committee offered no additional comments. 

 

Adjourn

It was moved by Commissioner Kay, seconded by Commissioner Postula, to adjourn the meeting.  On a voice vote, the motion was CARRIED.

 

Chairperson LaJoie declared the meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
