FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAULT STE MARIE, MI – The City of Sault Ste Marie, Michigan Water Department is working closely with the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) to determine the cause of elevated lead levels in Andary Avenue subdivision. The City Water Department and EGLE notified residents in this neighborhood and began delivering water filters as a precautionary measure to properties that exceeded the state’s limit of twelve parts per billion (pbb).

Lead levels in the rest of the city have continually tested below acceptable levels.

The Water Department is actively monitoring this situation and is investigating these affected properties service lines to determine the cause of these test levels. For more information, residents may access the City’s Consumer Confidence Report on the City’s website at Watertreatment Plant.
