PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Chippewa County Warns Residents of Scam Calls Using County Phone Numbers
Chippewa County is alerting residents to suspicious phone calls appearing to originate from County telephone numbers. These calls may involve offers to sell insurance, claims regarding past-due notices, or other requests that may not be legitimate County business.
Chippewa County does not solicit the sale of insurance or conduct unrelated sales solicitations. While the County may contact constituents for County matters, residents should verify any unexpected request before providing information or making a payment.
Scammers can use a technique known as caller ID spoofing to make a call appear as though it is coming from a legitimate County telephone number. The number displayed on your caller ID does not necessarily identify the actual caller.
If you receive a suspicious call displaying a Chippewa County telephone number, please contact the County directly at 906.635.6330 to report it. We ask residents to notify us if our telephone numbers are being used in this manner so we can monitor the situation and help raise awareness.
Please do not provide personal, financial, or banking information or make payments based solely on an unexpected phone call. When in doubt, independently verify the caller's identity by contacting the appropriate County department using an official telephone number.
Chippewa County appreciates the public's assistance in protecting our residents from fraudulent activity.
